Kostas Kanargelidis, a Greek entrepreneur, immigrated to Toronto, where ESL classes required learning a trade. He chose carpet installation and, after a few years as an installer, opened his own retail business. With his wife Mahi, a seamstress, they expanded the business to offer custom drapery alongside carpets. Eventually, they shifted focus to manufacturing hard window coverings, founding Sun Glow. Sun Glow launched the SG 1000 and the Sun Glow 5000 Mechanical Vertical Blind Cutting Systems. Although Sun Glow no longer manufactures vertical blinds, many of those who purchased the machine continue to use it.
Kostas passed away in February 2006, 18 months after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Following this, Kostas’s daughter, Vivian Kanargelidis, prepared Sun Glow for expansion and diversification as a premier shade manufacturing brand. Sun Glow released their own fabric collection of high-quality window shades and began sourcing and importing exclusive textile offerings. This fabric collection was later updated and repackaged to include on-trend fabrics for custom window shades in 2010, 2013, and 2016.
Sun Glow diversified by extending into the contract shading market for commercial spaces. To prepare the company for this new direction, CAD designers and architectural specialists were brought on board to enhance our offerings in custom window shades and solutions tailored to meet the needs of various projects
Sun Glow exhibited for the first time at IIDEX and won awards for two innovative products in the window shades industry. Pure Screen, a fabric that cleans the air, received Silver in the Textiles category, while MAX, a system for creating large custom shades with a small 4” cassette for interior or exterior use, won Gold in the Innovative Products category.
Sun Glow’s innovative drive produced yet another revolutionary development in the window shades market. The Vision Roller Shading System is a next-generation product that is feature-rich, easy to implement, and incredibly flexible, making it an ideal solution for custom window shades in various settings.
We established partnerships with several e-commerce sites and businesses, including Home Depot, Wayfair, Rona, Lowe’s, Select Blinds, Offcus Shades, and Walmart, to enhance our reach in the window shades market and offer a wider range of custom shading solutions to our customers.
Our in-house development team created Sun Glow’s first online ordering system for our dealer network, offering custom shades for homes, businesses, and institutions, making it easier for customers to access window shades tailored to their specific needs.
Sun Glow updated the roller shade line to include all-new cassettes, fascias, hems, and cordless operating shade systems, such as the Zero Gravity model, ensuring access to the customers with the latest innovations in custom window shades.
In 2023, Sun Glow, a leading shade manufacturing brand, celebrated their 40th anniversary with an entire year of new product launches, promotions, and giveaways for all of the customers who had helped them grow along the way, showcasing their commitment to providing high-quality window shades and innovative shading solutions.
Sun Glow collaborated closely with a builder to introduce window shades as part of their design center offerings, complementing the existing choices available. The design center was equipped with samples of Sun Glow’s window shades, allowing customers to interact with various operating systems and appreciate the superior quality. Additionally, our team provided comprehensive training to the builder’s design team, covering our products and the ShadeQuote Pro program.
