How much light do you want to let through?

Every fabric sits somewhere on this scale. Tap one to see the difference.

Sheer

You can still see out and daylight fills the room. There is little privacy after dark, so sheers are often paired with a second fabric.

Light Filtering / Privacy

The most popular choice. Daylight comes through as a soft glow and people outside can't see into the room, though shapes may be visible at night.

Room Darkening

Most of the light is blocked and the room reads dim rather than dark. A little light still enters around the edges of the shade.

Blackout

No light passes through the fabric itself. Add a cassette and side channels to close the gap around the shade for a fully dark room.

A privacy (light-filtering) fabric stops people seeing in while daylight still glows through. A blackout fabric lets no light through the material at all — the right choice for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms.
