The John H. Daniels Faculty is Canada’s leading school in urban design, landscape design and architecture.  In this project, Sun Glow contributed to the building’s architectural design by using its modular Vision shade system on sunscreen fabrics for temperature and light control. We are proud to have taken part in shaping this new learning environment.

Daniel’s Building showcases the following Sun Glow products:

– Slim Bar hem bar

Being one of the most energy-efficient buildings at U of T, the Myhal Centre for Engineering, Innovation & Entrepreneurship hosts a variety of Sun Glow’s products. These include a two-tier Sunscreen system in the Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics, and manual Fascia systems to allow for a seamless design experience.

The Myhal Centre displays the following Sun Glow products:
– CS 103-6 brown fabric
– Fascia manual chain operation
– Accubar hem bar.

We manufactured window shade solutions for the new building of this all-girls boarding school for grades JK to grade 12.

We used a mix of blackout and sunscreen fabrics with manually operated Vision V-84 roller shades.

The facility was constructed for competitive purposes during the Pan Am Games and required blackout roller shades in the gymnasium as well as blackout and sun control roller shades in the pool area.

The Field House features flexible gymnasium space for training and competition, as well as an indoor recreational track and fitness area with cardio and weightlifting facilities.

Conceived of as the new “Centre of the Community,” the facility combines sport, fitness, and library services on one site and under one roof.

Sustainable design strategies and systems have been utilized to ensure the facility will achieve LEED Silver certification.

Both dual shades and sunscreen shades were selected. The dual shades allow for an opaque fabric to be lowered when room darkening is required and a 5% sunscreen to allow outward visibility while reducing glare.

All Shades were automated.

The building is subject to heavy east and west solar exposure, which is now managed with roller shades.

A 5% openness factor sun screen was implemented to reduce solar heat gain and glare. Special attention was directed into meeting the architect’s design need to match the specific colour of the curtain wall. Since no existing fabric colour met the architect’s requirements, Sun Glow provided fabric that was customized to match the silver/blue tint.

Spanning just over 59,000 sq. ft. the Regent Park Community Centre features recreation facilities, an employment centre, child care centre, and connections to Nelson Mandela Park Public School.

Offices, lounges, board rooms, computer labs, dance studio, gymnasium and banquet hall.

Graphic Shades™ are utilized here as an artistic medium. The Gordon Head Recreation Centre commissioned the artist for several mural-esque pieces to enhance the sense of activity and community that the space promotes. Blending this art with the clean function of Roller Shades provides exceptional light and line-of-sight control.
